Types of olive oil

 

According to Turkish Standard Institution, there are three types of olive oil.

 

1. Natural Olive Oil

 

Natural olive oil is the highest quality olive oil. It’s color is greenish-yellow and it preserves smell and taste of olive. Natural olive oil can be grouped in two types. Extra Virgin Olive oil and Vrigin olive oil . Extra Vrigin olive Oil has 1% acidity at most. Natural olive oil (Extra virgin olive Oil and Virgin olive oil) generally can be consumed raw. Virgin olive oil has %1-2 acidity.

 

2. Refined Olive Oil

 

Olive oil which has high acidity percent can not be consumed without being refined. Olive oil obtained after refining process has zero acidity level. It does not contain any impurities that lower the quality of oil. Refined olive oil is consumed by countries that are not used to the taste of natural olive oil.

 

3. Riveria Olive Oil

 

Riveria olive oil is obtained from a mixture of natural and refined olive oil (10-20% refined olive oil). This type oil is used for frying.
